There’s something fishy about the Whale Kit from Octa (http://octa.com). Sorry I couldn’t resist plunging into that pun, can’t you sea?
Don’t let its comical appearance fool you. The US$49.99 Whale Kit — which comes in two pieces (the Vacuum Dock and WhaleTail) — is a cute-yet-useful iPad device that provides a secure, one-handed grip on your tablet or e-reader. Once attached the kit isn’t easily dislodged. The Vacuum Dock’s dual-chamber vacuum suction system makes for an extremely secure connection. (And, no, I’m not going to say that it sucks.)
Of course, sometimes you’ll want to remove it, but that’s easy. Hold your device with the screen facing your body, place your thumb at the small tab around the ring of the dock and pry the tab up with your thumb. The suction power is released, and the dock is free from your device.
The Whale Kit also doubles as a stand for a variety of typing and viewing angles.
Just flex the WhaleTail. It’s stiff enough to hold any position, yet flexible enough that you can bend it to your needs. The Whale Kit has a “future-proof” design that works with all iPads (including the iPad mini).
Any iPad accessory that’s both fun and practical gets my recommendation. Once you’ve tried it, the Whale Kit will have you harpooned.
